SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, for more than 40 years, has provided assistance to populations victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting vital needs, drinking, eating and shelter. Present in 26 countries, SI teams – 3,200 people in total made up of expatriates, national employees, permanent staff at headquarters, a few volunteers, etc. – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.
The mission
Since March 2020, SI has been working in France to respond to the challenges of water, hygiene and sanitation insecurity in five territories. In partnership with metropolitan Water and Sanitation operators and their Foundations, its projects target populations living in degraded sites such as shanty towns or squats and in particular having limited access to basic services, in terms of drinking water, sanitation, and access to basic hygiene products. SI’s strategy consists of supporting local stakeholders in their search for concrete solutions, by proposing to improve the sanitary conditions of the sites, in particular through the installation of drinking water supplies, sanitation infrastructure and the development of pilot projects adapted to the context of each intervention area.
