Finance Assistant
The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Finance Department by managing daily accounting tasks, ensuring that all financial resources that come into the organization are recorded, tracked, and accounted for in a timely and transparent manner and used in fulfilment of the core mission of the organization.
Main Responsibilities
- Handling the day-to-day accounting transactions from payment Request file to month end reporting
- Verify supporting documentation with each payment requested.
- Resolve all invoicing issues.
- Work on VAT claims and ensure timely submission to RSL, follow up on reimbursement and capture them in the system (SUN)
- Coordinate Banking Activities: Coordinates deposits and withdrawals from Habitat for Humanity Lesotho accounts as requested by the Operations officer.
- Maintain cash flow management.
- Maintain an effective filing system for financial transactions.
- Review and process travel & expense reports and follow up on employee advances.
- Ensures financial data is captured and posted into computerized accounting systems (Sun System) on a regular basis.
- Assist the Operations Officer with monthly closings.
- Maintain the fixed asset register.
- Assist in the preparation for the year-end audit including providing all necessary documents.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Safeguarding Activities
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, including invoices, receipts, and statements.
- Implement a systematic filing system, both physical and digital, for easy retrieval and audit purposes
- Ensure compliance with internal controls designed to prevent fraud and errors.
- Protect sensitive financial information by following data security protocols.
- Ensure that access to financial records is restricted to authorized personnel only.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information and avoid sharing it with unauthorized individuals.
- Handle sensitive information, such as employee payroll data, with the utmost discretion.
- Be vigilant for signs of fraudulent activity, such as unusual payment requests or discrepancies in financial records.
- Report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authority immediately.
Skills
- Technical accounting skills and understanding of accounting software; SUN Accounting System
- Competent in MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Good understanding accounting policies, standards and associated regulatory issues
- Good analytical and organizational skills, attention to details and determination to meet deadlines
- Good communication skills (both written and oral) in Sesotho and English;
- Honesty and strong ethics are required in order to be successful in this position;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Demonstrated capacity and willingness to learn – open to learning new ways of doing things;

Education Required:
- Diploma in Accounting. Bachelor’s degree in accounting will be an added advantage.
Experience Required:
- The minimum relevant work experience required is 3 years in accounting or related field and knowledge of SUN Systems will be an added advantage.
