Job Overview: The Digital Literacy Specialist advances workforce development and economic empowerment outcomes by strengthening digital skills, access, and connectivity for IRC Seattle clients. Embedded within Economic Empowerment programs – including Career Development, Employment, Small Business Development, Financial Literacy and Coaching, and Women’s Economic Empowerment programs – this role ensures that digital literacy directly supports job readiness, training access, entrepreneurship, income generation, and financial stability.

Reporting to the Senior Career Development Program Coordinator, the Digital Literacy Specialist works cross-departmentally with career navigators, employment specialists, caseworkers, and program leads to deliver workshop-based instruction, individualized coaching, and practical digital solutions. The position focuses on removing digital barriers that prevent clients from accessing employment, education, training, benefits, business tools, and essential financial systems.

Major Responsibilities:

Program Delivery & Instruction

  • Facilitate and co-facilitate digital literacy workshops, classes, and group trainings aligned with workforce development and economic empowerment goals (e.g., job search and application platforms, resumes, email and professional communication, online learning portals, small business tools, budgeting and banking platforms, tele-services).
  • Provide individual and small-group digital coaching and tutoring, including in-language support when possible, to address client-specific barriers to employment, training, entrepreneurship, and financial participation.
  • Administer digital skills assessments and informal intakes to identify gaps and tailor instruction to client goals.
  • Offer structured drop-in support (e.g., open computer lab or office hours) for clients needing hands-on assistance with devices, applications, or platforms.
  • Utilize remote and hybrid delivery tools to expand access to instruction and flexible learning opportunities.

Career Development & Economic Empowerment Integration

  • Collaborate closely with Employment, Career Development, Small Business Development, Financial Literacy, and Women’s Economic Empowerment teams to align digital instruction with service plans and placement goals.
  • Coordinate with primary caseworkers and career navigators to reinforce learning, ensure continuity of services, and support progress toward employment and self-sufficiency.
  • Deliver instruction using inclusive, trauma-informed approaches that meet the needs of Limited English Proficiency participants, women, entrepreneurs, and clients with limited digital access or experience.

Digital Access & Connectivity Support

  • Support client access to digital devices, low-cost broadband options, and essential platforms required for workforce training, job placement, business development, and financial services.
  • Assist clients with internet adoption processes and navigation of free or affordable connectivity resources.

Coordination, Data, & Accountability

  • Track services, workshop attendance, learning outcomes, and referrals using IRC databases, digital case files, and other required data systems in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain documentation required for program monitoring, reporting, invoicing, and funder compliance.
  • Utilize data to assess effectiveness, identify gaps, and inform program improvements related to digital access and economic outcomes.

Program Development & Partnerships

  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and documentation of digital literacy curricula, standard operating procedures, and instruction materials
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of IRC Seattle’s Digital Equity initiatives with a focus on economic participation and workforce readiness.
  • Conduct outreach and coordinate with community partners, workforce providers, and digital equity organizations to expand access to training, devices, and connectivity.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent combination of professional and lived experience
  • Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant strongly preferred; demonstrated experience working with refugee and immigrant communities required
  • Experience working with non-native English speakers across a range of proficiency levels
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating or co-facilitating workshops, classes, or group instruction, ideally in workforce, education, or economic empowerment contexts
  • Strong digital skills and demonstrated ability to teach others to use platforms related to employment, training, entrepreneurship, benefits, and financial systems
  • Experience conducting digital skills assessments and tailoring instruction accordingly preferred.
  • Familiarity with common remote service and productivity tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, DocuSign, online forms, shared file platforms).
  • Experience collaborating within a coordinated service delivery or case management model.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including accurate data entry and documentation.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a fast-paced, cross-program environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills across diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to equity, anti-racism, and continuous learning.

Compensation: (Pay Range: $27 – $29) Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
