Background
We Are Able! a 5-year consortium project implemented in 5 districts of the northern part of Uganda (Omoro, Nwoya, Arua City, Terego and Yumbe), aims to empower, amplify voices, create resilience among persons with disabilities and strengthen Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) by enhancing their capacity for lobbying and advocacy. The project focuses on promoting sustainable and inclusive access to basic resources, thereby contributing to improved food security in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2). Particular emphasis is placed on persons with disabilities, as they are often at heightened risk of food insecurity.
The Project is implemented through 3 pathways:
Pathway I: Community mobilization with a focus on; engaging and capacitating PWDs and community members to organize and self-advocate, create attitudinal change on household and community level and removing stigmas around PWDs, practically work on improving food security for households with PWDs. Pathway II: Strengthening Disabled People Organizations (DPOs)/ Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with a focus on; Resilience building of DPOs, Capacity development of DPOs/CSOs, and Lobby and advocacy. Pathway III: Engaging public authorities (PAs)
The Overall goal of the Project is that:
“By 2025, through engagement with public authorities (formal and informal powerholders), men, women and youth with disabilities and other excluded groups, through resilient and capable local CSO/OPDs in six fragile and conflict-affected countries, are successfully influencing laws, policies, practices and norms for improved food security for all.”
The consortium behind We Are Able! shares a unified goal of fostering inclusive food security. This comprises ZOA, NUIDPU, the African Disability Forum (ADF)and Light For the World(LFTW) alongside implementing partners VNG International and The Hague Academy for Local Governance.
In a bid to showcase the project progress, processes and outcomes, the consortium seeks to document through videography and photography to enhance visual impact and Engagement but also ensure accessibility and inclusivity.
2. Objectives of the Assignment
As part of our documentation efforts, we seek the services of a professional photography and videography company to capture impact stories, highlight key project milestones, and showcase the journey of WaA in Acholi(Omoro, Nwoya) and West Nile(Arua City, Terego and Yumbe) .
The documented stories will be shared with stakeholders, including donors and implementing partners, to ensure accountability, foster learning, and enhance the design and implementation of similar initiatives.
3. Scope of Work
The exercise will cover all the 5 districts (Omoro, Nwoya, Arua City, Terego and Yumbe). The focus will be on participants of the program and the activities implemented. Key stakeholders include Consortium members, engaged OPDs/CSOs at national, district/City, Sub-counties and Public Authorities, and community members.
The selected company will be responsible for:
Photography: Capturing high-resolution images that document the impact of the WaA project, including:
- Portraits of beneficiaries, stakeholders, and project participants.
- Action shots of activities and interventions.
- Community and environmental context images.
- Thematic shots aligned with project goals (e.g., disability inclusion, inclusive food security, Land rights, empowerment).
Videography: Filming high-quality video footage, including:
- Interviews with beneficiaries, project staff, and key stakeholders.
- Footage of project activities and community engagement sessions.
- Testimonials and real-life impact stories.
Video Production (Highlight, Documentary and short impact videos):
- Showcases the journey of the WaA project.
- Incorporates key interviews, testimonials, and on-ground activities.
- Is professionally edited with subtitles, background music, and visual storytelling elements.
Post-Production & Editing:
- Editing photos and videos to ensure high-quality output.
- Adding subtitles, translations and captions.
- Providing raw and edited footage in different formats for social media, reports, and presentations.
4. Deliverables:
The following will be delivered as key outputs.
- A minimum of 100 high-resolution edited photographs covering different aspects of the project.
- At least 10 short video clips (1-3 minutes each) showcasing impact stories.
- A 3–5-minute highlight video summarizing the WaA project journey.
- A 15-minute documentary showcased in a story telling way.
- Subtitles, translations and captions.
- Scripting
- All raw footage and unedited photos on an external hard drive or cloud storage.
5. Timeline
The Assignment is to be conducted over a 5-week period, with key milestones as follows
- 2nd – 6th June: Planning Meeting/refining of workplans with Consortium Team
- 9th -13th June: Scripting and presentation of Draft Scripts
- 16th -20th June: Documentation
- 23rd -27th June: Editing, graphics designing, etc. and sharing of drafts to consortium team
- 30th -4th July: Finalization and presentation of documented/produced work
6. Expectations & Requirements
The selected service provider is expected to:
- Have proven experience in development/humanitarian storytelling and documentary filmmaking.
- Demonstrate experience in working on projects related to disability inclusion, community development, and social impact.
- Have high-quality photography and videography equipment, including professional cameras, drones, microphones, and stabilizers.
- Use inclusive and ethical storytelling approaches, ensuring that subjects are dignified and represented authentically.
- Obtain informed consent from all participants before filming or photographing them.
- Be flexible and able to travel to different implementation sites under the WaA project.
- Deliver within the agreed timelines and budget.
- Follow the Organization Code of Conduct and safe Guarding Policies.
- Respect the data Protection Policies as guided.
7. Reporting Line
The key Contact persons for the assignment will be the Consortium MEAL Coordinator (WaA!) and Communications and Information Officer (LFTW)
8. Budget
The budget for the Assignment will cover costs, including professional fees, Accommodation and documentation expenses. Zoa will provide Transport to and from the field locations. Applicants should provide a detailed budget breakdown in their proposal.
