This internship is part of an academic, professional or socio -professional integration program, and must respond to conditions fixed by the job supervisory board (CSME). The duration of the internship, fixed by the tripartite agreement, is 6 to 12 months to 100 %.

Contexte & Mission

Doctors Without Borders is an independent international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care for people in need, people affected by natural disasters or caused by man and victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and without taking into account race, religion, beliefs or political affiliation (MSF charter).

The climate crisis has a dramatic impact on the health and well-being of populations around the world, vulnerable populations are the first and hardest affected. As a humanitarian medical organization, MSF is extremely concerned about the current and future burden on the health problems linked to the climate and the environment. As part of its institutional strategy, MSF made the commitment to halve its CO2 emissions by 2030. In 2022, a decarbonization roadmap adapted to the reality of its humanitarian medical activities was established for MSF-Suisse. This roadmap has 32 solutions to reduce its environmental impacts. In order to set up and follow this roadmap, it is essential to provide information and tools to MSF staff, as well as regularly measure the environmental footprint of the organization.

The trainee’s mission will be to support MSF in its effort to reduce its environmental impact, including its carbon emissions, to help preserve the health of the most vulnerable.

Main responsibilities

  1. Contribute to the measurement of the carbon footprint 2025
  • Collaborate with the departments and stakeholders concerned to collect the relevant data to calculate the organization’s carbon footprint.
  • Evaluate data quality, prepare, compile and analyze data
  • Use the methodology and established tools to assess emissions in the different categories, including direct and indirect sources.
  • Participate and contribute to the MSF working group “Carbon Accounting”
  • Write reports of analysis of the 2025 carbon footprint of the organization

2. Make a practical guide on how to reduce the surrounding footprint:

  • Collaborate with departments and stakeholders to define and describe the measures to be taken
  • Define the most appropriate document format to transmit the information
  • Participate in the development of the guide to disseminate the guide
  • Write the guide, analyzes and information sheets to help MSF employees reduce the environmental impact of the organization

3. Make dashboards to follow the implementation of the measures of the environmental roadmap

  • Collaborate with the departments and stakeholders concerned to collect the relevant data related to the OEVERE of the roadmap
  • Evaluate data quality, prepare, compile and analyze data
  • Make dashboards allowing MSF to have a great vision of the implementation of its roadmap

4. Manage and feed the MSF intranet site on climate change

  • Collect documents regarding climatic and environmental risks in the various countries in which MSF operates.
  • Collect and produce documents related to the measures to be taken to reduce the Environmental Impact of MSF activities

Profile sought

  • During higher education or ending a cycle of higher education in engineering, environmental sciences, environmental health, sustainable development or in a similar field
  • Be eligible for an internship agreement with a third party
  • Carbon accounting training is an asset
  • Experience in a similar position is an advantage
  • Data collection, management and analysis
  • Excel mastery and analysis and data visualization tools (eg Power Bi, Table, etc.)
  • Excellent mastery of French and English

Working conditions

  • Mandatory tripartite internship agreement

  • Gross monthly remuneration: CHF 2,000.-
